Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson, was born in Paris France of British parents Jacqueline Luesby Watson and Chris Watson both lawyers. When she was five, she moved to Oxfordshire to attend the Dragon School. Emma was inspired to become an actor when she was six. Over the course of several years, she attended the Oxford branch Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. She learned to sing dance, acting and singing. Her performances had been in a variety of Stagecoach as well as school plays before she turned ten. The casting process began in 1999 in the production of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the movie adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was discovered by agent through their Oxford teacher. David Heyman told Emma along with Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe that they had all been through 8 consecutive auditions. Emma's first cinematic appearance was in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in the year 2001. It also was the film that was most popular of 2001. The opening days and weekends of ticket sales were record-breaking. The critics were impressed by the film and its performance. The Daily Telegraph, an influential British paper, called Emma's performances "amazing".
